Dermal Fillers

Dr MacRae has selected a range of dermal fillers based on their safety profiles. She will take a medical history, examine you and then recommend a product which will give you your ideal result depending on the area being treated and your desired duration of treatment

Our faces age for 3 main reasons:

1.  Loss of facial fat resulting in sagging skin, wrinkles and folds

2.  Bone loss in the skull - which normally provides underlying support for the face

3.  Skin ageing due to UV and oxidative damage, resulting in decreased elasticity.

As a result, we lose facial volume and this is where dermal fillers may help you. They are injected into areas of your face (e.g. cheeks, lips) where volume has been lost, to restore the natural contours and create youthful plumpness.

Fillers can also be used to correct facial imbalance by making your features more harmonious or to simply plump up cheeks and lips regardless of your age.

What can dermal fillers achieve?

  • Lip restoration or lip enhancement (to restore lost volume in a very subtle way or to add volume to lips of any age)

  • Cheek augmentation

  • Facial volume restoration

  • Nasolabial folds

  • Marionette lines (downward lines around the mouth)

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Upper lip lines (also known as smoker’s lines)

  • Brow lift

  • Tear troughs

  • Crow’s feet

  • Chin/jaw augmentation

  • Hand rejuvenation

  • Neck and chest rejuvenation

  • Earlobe restoration

Does it hurt?

For some patients, there may be a mild discomfort. However, Dr MacRae uses topical anesthetic numbing (numbing cream) and ice to minimise this. Most of the fillers offered by Dr MacRae are available with added local anesthetic to maximise your comfort.

Cannulas are also available for use (instead of needles) which are soft tipped and can be smoothly inserted (often through just 2-4 insertion point).

Is there downtime?

You may experience some swelling or redness after your treatment. Redness usually subsides within a few hours. However, swelling can last for a day or so. Dr MacRae will advise how to reduce this. Occasionally, slight bruising may occur which can be hidden with concealer.

When will I see a result?

Immediately! However, you will be able to better see the final result once any swelling subsides in a day or two.

Will the area feel different?

The fillers Dr MacRae uses integrate with your own tissue. This is especially important in areas like your lips, where you want to see a result without feeling drastically different.

How long will the filler last?

This depends on which product is selected and which area is treated but generally 6-12 months.
