Anti-Wrinkle injections

Who is this treatment for?

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to inhibit wrinkle formation, smooth out an existing wrinkle or prevent it from becoming deeper.

A small amount of product is injected into the muscles that cause a wrinkle, allowing these muscles to relax. Once these muscles are relaxed, the overlying wrinkles of the skin are softened or erased completely, whilst the untreated muscles continue to allow facial expression, which is very important to ensure a natural result and to avoid a ‘frozen’ appearance.

What conditions does this treat?

We can target:

  • Frown lines

  • Crow’s feet

  • Forehead lines

  • ‘Bunny’ lines on the nose

  • Nose tip elevation

  • Gummy smile

  • Marionette lines (sad mouth)

  • Smoker’s lines

  • Dimply chin

  • Chin crease

  • Platsymal neck bands (Nefertiti Lift)

  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

We can also achieve:

  • Non-surgical brow lift

  • Facial slimming (masseter injections)

Who can administer anti-wrinkle treatments?

The products used in these injections are available only to doctors by prescription and as such, must be administered by a fully trained medical professional. You should always check the qualifications and experience of your cosmetic practitioner.

How does it feel?

Dr MacRae offers topical anesthetic (numbing cream) and ice, as well as using ultra-fine needles so any discomfort is very minor.

Is it safe?

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for over a decade for cosmetic purposes, and over 20 years for other medical purposes.

The tiny injections are usually well-tolerated when administered at the low levels required for cosmetic purposes.

However, with any medical cosmetic treatments, occasional side effects may occur. Dr MacRae will take a thorough medical history to ensure the product selected is best for you and will fully explain the procedure and expected outcomes.

Is there downtime?

You may appear slightly red at the injection site but this quickly subsides within an hour. Ice will reduce any minor swelling. You should avoid exercise for the first 24 hours. It is recommended that you do not lie flat for 4 hours post-treatment.

When will I see a result?

The product usually begins to ‘kick in’ at around day 3, reaching its peak effect at day 10-14. It then lasts approximately 3-4 months with individual variation.

If you decide to discontinue treatment, your muscles will gradually return to full activity and your wrinkles will slowly reappear. There is no stretching or sagging of your skin or accelerated ageing should you wish to discontinue treatment. However, most patients love the results so much that they continue with this treatment.

This is definitely one of the procedures Dr MacRae performs with the highest level of patient satisfaction.
